Objectives
Both the Information Technology degree and the Applied Information Technology degree aim to prepare students for a career in the IT industry, with particular emphasis on the vocational elements of computer systems and the application of IT in modern businesses. Graduates will be well qualified to play a disciplined and creative part in IT consultancy, or a development or support environment. The Applied IT degree includes a placement year that provides an understanding of how the methods and technologies learnt in parts 1 and 2 of this degree relate to the requirements of industry. We have excellent industrial links with our close neighbours who include Microsoft, Intel and IBM, as well as many smaller companies and research organisations. We will help you to find a placement appropriate to your needs and interests.

Entry requirements
There are different entry qualifications for each programme. Some programmes require you to have a certain amount of knowledge in a subject before you begin the degree programme – this is called a ‘subject requirement’. Other programmes do not have any specific subject requirements. All programmes will, however, expect you to have reached a certain standard in your education and will ask you to achieve certain grades in your examinations. Most programmes have a standard offer so that you know in advance what you are likely to need. Please note that even if you have the minimum entry qualifications, you are not necessarily guaranteed a place on the degree programme.
