Course description
BSc Animal Science
Programme
Year one
During Semester 1, you will follow a broad base of modules in the Biological Sciences. Modules covered include Cell Biology, Genetics, Whole Organism Biology and Biochemistry. Semester 2 incorporates more specialised modules including Genetics, Physiology, Endocrinology, Biochemistry and Nutrition.
Year two
Our very flexible degree programme means that you can choose from a wide variety of modules (based within Biosciences and at University Park Campus) to suit your interests and future career options. Decisions on which modules to follow are taken in consultation with staff who are able to provide guidance and advice. You will plan your final-year research project.
Year three
The Honours Research Project is a major strength of our degree, contributing a third of your final year mark. In a supervised environment, you work in close collaboration with animals (farm livestock, companion species) and/or laboratory procedures to study animal physiology or biochemistry at a molecular/tissue/organ level. This involves study of the whole animal, including nutrient responses and animal behaviour.
