BA Theatre and Performance
Programme
Theatre And Performance Year 1
* Re-thinking performance and developing the creative performer: Core movement and voice training, improvisation and spontaneity, characterisation, introduction to performance theory, exploring new performance spaces and environments, performance laboratory, engaging in reflective and critical discourse and peer feedback
* This foundation year introduces you to the skills, techniques and understandings with which to create and analyse successful performance
* You will look at the practice of improvisation; devising; performance theory; textual analysis and stagecraft
* Much of the initial work is tutor directed and performance outcomes, although largely studio based, may be presented in a range of indoor and outdoor locations
* There is a strong emphasis on collaborative and ensemble work
Theatre And Performance Year 2
* Crafting performance texts and scores and interrogating the role and function of performance: Large scale tutor led performances, exploring contemporary performance practices, developing a critical practice to articulate the inter-relatedness between creation, performance and reception in your own work
* Develop a critical practice in order to articulate the inter-relatedness between creation, performance and reception in your own work – this may include, physical and political theatre, site-specific performance and community theatre, performance and technology, cross-cultural performance.
Theatre And Performance Year 3
* Focuses on individual interests, skills and personal development planning - advanced performance practice, showcase your final degree performances, pursue a performance research project through dissertation or practice, plan a professional development
* In your third year you are encouraged to pursue and research those aspects of theatre and performance that particularly appeal to you
* In your practical performance work your choice of style and focus is down to you (having discussed your choice with tutors)
* Dissertation topics are similarly arrived at - you are the main driver of your course of study drawing on the support, expertise and interests of staff
* Throughout each year close contacts are maintained with performance arts and professional theatre and dance groups. A programme of professional performance work is arranged for the Studio Theatre (opened May 2002) which is also one of the major venues for student work
