Objectives
Our language courses at Sheffield focus on small-group teaching, and you'll be taught by internationally-renowned experts in our field. Beginners and post-A Level Russian students follow separate language courses tailored to their levels for two full years. We offer a core programme in Russian culture and civilisation that complements language instruction at each level. All students follow either a beginners or advanced Russian course, depending on their qualifications, and modules in Russian culture. Russian with Polish offers a range of options, including Russian literature, art, cinema, social history, and linguistics. The Polish side of your degree includes modules in the language and culture of Poland. You study Polish from level one and take modules in Polish history and Polish literature. You spend half your year abroad in Russia, and half in Warsaw or Cracow. The course lasts four years. You'll gain a thorough grounding in all aspects of spoken and written Russian and Polish, including conversation, reading, translating and oral presentation. We also hone your reading, presentation and writing skills in English.
