    Programme

Stage 1: Students engage with research methods and the generation of innovative design proposals through a variety of processes, technologies and experimental applications.  Experimentation is aligned with materials exploration development processes, and construction techniques. The fundamentals of market awareness, social and environmental issues, consumer behaviour and supply chain management introduce the student to the context of the professional sector.

Students are supported by timetabled access to specialist sampling equipment (at Curtain Road) which facilitates and informs the realisation process into samples and finished contour garments.

The curriculum benefits from an integrated programme of Cultural and Historical studies. Core units at Stage 2 provide a range of opportunities to experience professional practices through sponsored briefs, competitions and subject specialist inputs, covering local, national and international contexts and issues. Students are prepared and supported for an optional year on a hosted work placement by dedicated input and guidance from the College's Fashion Business Resource Studio (FBRS).

This optional year is recognised by the Diploma in Professional Studies award.

In addition, students may choose units from a range of Discipline Electives - designed to enhance and nurture creativity, understanding and inquiry at undergraduate level.

Stage 3 of the course allows student to research, indentify and create a final project with self defined parameters - customer, market, season, competitors, etc.  Each student will define and realise an individual outcome - supported within common core units in research planning, concept development, realisation and reflection.

Students may collaborate with other colleagues from another specialist Product course or liaise with students from one of the Fashion Design Technology group (Womenswear, Menswear, Bespoke Tailoring or Surface Textiles) establishing a cross specialist partnership activity.
