Course description
BA Education Studies
Programme
Education Studies is offered as a Joint Honours programme which enables students to study alongside another course, eg English, Psychology, History, Teaching English as a Foreign Language or Drama Studies.
Students study modules which examine the education systems of Britain and Europe from a theoretical and sociological perspective and explore the historical and political context of education. Option modules cover contemporary issues such as gender and equality in education, developments in technology and IT in education, adult learners and learning and research methods in education.
In the final year students can opt to write a dissertation on a topic in current educational theory or practice. Recent dissertation topics have included the study of special educational needs in primary schools, how and why education systems in Europe differ, and the perceived underachievement of boys at secondary level.
The Education Studies team works closely with the Humanities Academic Guidance Unit to help students of all backgrounds and experience in their transition to Higher Education. The staff team are enthusiastic, friendly and very supportive.
