    ATE at Plymouth gives students a sound understanding of building design, building construction and sustainable technology. The course highlights the need to be environmentally responsible and technically competent and fuses these with architectural design and the professional aspects of the construction industry.

    240 points. A level/AS level/Vocational A level. Equivalent qualifications may be considered. Also at least five GCSE passes, to include English at grade C or above and Maths.

    Programme

    Year 1

        * Develop your skills, confidence and critical understanding of architecture, technology and the environment
        * Work in the studio with your colleagues on design projects
        * Examine the design of structures and construction, energy systems in buildings, site surveying and building law
        * Study the history and theories of architecture

    Year 2

        * Engage in studio design challenges and explore the impact of your decisions on human and environmental performance
        * Develop skills and understanding of environmental issues affecting the building process and buildings in use
        * You will have the opportunity to travel abroad and within the UK to study real places and buildings

    Year 3

        * Between stage 2 and the final year, you will have the option of taking a placement year
        * You will spend this placement working with an architectural technologist in practice
        * You will be supervised by the School of Architecture & Design

        * Technical understanding is extended through lectures and seminars that examine the design of the building envelope, the environmental impact of buildings, building conservation, fire, health and safety, and process management, as well as property and environmental law
        * A module in professional practice prepares you for the world of work

    Year 4

        * Develop your personal skills and focus on key issues through essays, reports and seminars
        * Explore the integration of your ideas about form, use, structure and construction within the framework of sustainable building design
