Content details
This qualification is for people working in youth work and want to develop skills and knowledge in this area. It is aimed at students hoping to work in statutory and voluntary agencies. It covers units such as practice in youth work, Values and ethics in youth work; Group work in youth work; Youth Work and Informal Education; Planning and delivering youth work; Evaluating and reviewing youth work; Working in organisations and teams; Assessing needs in youth work; Assessing needs in youth work. This course is run in partnership with London Youth. Students gather evidence of their experience through the development of a portfolio which includes: witness statements from employers/and essays and reflective accounts based around issues arising from youth work. Students progress to employment within youth work/youth justice or progress on to higher education. Foundation Degree in Youth Work available at CONEL.
How is the course taught
Portfolio development - this includes guidance on writing on critical issues that affect young people who come into contact with the youth justice system. Youth Justice based activities, classroom work; workshops; lecturer presentations; debate forums.
Assessment
Submission of Portfolio (which includes: observation reports of presentations; reflective journal entries, placement witness statements and reports).
Course leads to
Students progress to employment within youth work/youth justice or progress on to higher education. Foundation Degree in Youth Work available at CONEL.
