Entry requirementsYou will need demonstrate a mature approach to working with young people, and currently working in youth work (paid or voluntary). You will also be required to complete a work placement in youth work or setting where you are working with young people and provide a letter-headed document confirming your placement.

This course is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ). The course equips students, volunteers and/or employees working with young people with theoretical and practical skills that have been recognised by the JNC for youth work. Students study: engaging with youth people in conversation; safe environment in youth work; diversity; reflecting on youth work practice among other topics. Students gather evidence of their experience through the development of a portfolio which includes: witness statements from employers/and essays and reflective accounts based around issues arising from youth work. The course is also run in partnership with Haringey Youth Service.
How is the course taught
The process of portfolio development - this includes guidance on writing on critical issues that affect young people. Youth work based activities, classroom work; workshops; lecturer presentations; debate forums.
AssessmentYou will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, and observation of your competence in the work place.
Course leads to ABC VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work; BTEC National in Care; Access to Health Studies, Access to Social Work and Access to Psychology & Sociology courses. You could opt to gain employment in youth work.
