  • Course description This programme has been developed in conjunction with the Water Sciences’ Course Advisory Committee, an industrial liaison committee whose members include major UK water utilities, international engineering consultancies and contractors, and the Energy and Utility Sector Skills Council.

    Combining a taught Master’s with company-based project work, this innovative programme will provide a solid academic base and a rich experience with which to develop a career in the water sector.

    The course is specifically designed to:
    • educate students in the fundamentals and application of process science for advanced water and wastewater treatment
    • educate students in relevant management disciplines
    • develop the capability of each student to undertake applied industrial research and project work both individually and in teams.
    Students are registered full-time and complete a combined programme of campus and company-based study over a fixed period of two years. The course provides suitably qualified candidates with £10,500 per annum plus fees (at UK/EC rate) and a laptop.

    Our facilities include a sewage treatment works and pilot plant hall, a grey water treatment facility, and state-of-the-art microbiology and clean water laboratories.

    Accreditation

    The course is designed to fulfil the requirements of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Institution of Water Officers (IWO).
    Modules:
    The Master's element of the course includes eight assessed modules, a group design project and an individual thesis project. The modules, assessed by examination and assignment, are :

    • Hydraulics and Pumping Systems
    • Risk Management and Reliability Engineering
    • Research Processes
