This course provides a clear introduction to the use and possibilities of Vectorworks software (Version 12.5) enabling you to develop skills in the design and communication of interior spaces. It covers technical drawing in 2D, tools for the creation and modification of objects, scale, layers, presentation, use of symbols and a basic introduction to 3D.
What does the course lead to?
Students who successfully complete of this course will gain clear basic skills in Vectorworks drawing. Opportunities are available for further study in the ABC Award CAD for Interior Design and Interior Design at BTEC level.
What does the course involve?
This course provides an opportunity to gain knowledge and skill in the use of professional CAD software, Vectorworks 2008. This software is used widely in the design industry and regarded as an essential skill. In this course you will develop an understanding of Vectorworks 2008 as a creative 2D drawing tool. You will learn CAD drawing methods and further develop technical drawing skill to create spatial plans and elevations and explore and model 3D space. Students will work on exercises, small project tasks. Subject topics covered will include:
* Drawing with line
* Creating geometrical objects
* Duplication, rotating and editing
* Using layers and sheets
* Adding dimensions, text and symbols
* Walls and basic 3D drawing techniques
This course covers 1 term, in 10 evening sessions. A basic familiarity with the use of PC computers is required to join this course.
How much should I study outside class?
This course is taught in our IT facility and combines group demonstration and discussion, with individual work and support. No external study time is required, although additional work and practice outside the class sessions is always helpful.
What books and equipment do I need?
In this course students are asked to provide a notebook and project folder in which to record notes and organise course information, lesson hand outs, exercises and completed project work. Students who wish to store files for use outside the class should consider obtaining a USB memory stick/key to transport CAD files. A4 black and white printing facilities are provided.
