Course descriptionCourse description
The Research Route is a methods oriented pathway which provides a higher level of methodology training. It is suitable as a pre-PhD year. Those applicants wanting a four year (1+3) programme for their PhD should apply using this MSc application route.
Students will study Social Capital and Social Change, Methodology and Research Design (MARD), Data Analysis for Social Scientists, Qualitative Methods and several substantive modules from a list that includes such titles as:
- Race, Ethnicity and Community
- Citizenship and Identity
- Social Theory and Cultural Identity
- Social Movements
- Democracy: Theory and Practice
This degree will provide both quantitative and qualitative training. It is aimed at those wishing to study the links between new globalising forces (eg modernization; democratization) and other changes in the social and political character of societies.
Each masters student conducts a research dissertation project. These projects cover the comparative analysis of gradual social change in different countries or regions.
