Regeneration Studies (MSc)

  • Objectives To offer knowledge and expertise to take you on to a variety of careers including principal graduate employment destinations in the UK and international organisations, including national, regional and local economic development agencies/consultancies and public, private and third-sector organisations.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements:

    A First or Second class UK Honours degree in an appropriate subject. Suitable for graduates in Social Sciences, Geography, Humanities, and Business Studies. Applicants with good degrees in other relevant disciplines and/or mature students with a relevant professional background will also be considered.

    Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to pass either IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575 (232 for computer-based).

  • Course description Course Description:

    Joinlty run with the Cardiff School of Social Sciences, the MSc aims to add a teaching dimension to the research collaboration between the two schools which is provided by the Regeneration Institute.  This Institute provides a focus for the regeneration-related research activities undertaken in both schools.

    The course provides students with an opportunity to examine the range of social science issues covered by regeneration studies, especially the interplay between economy, state and civil society. The programme of study will also furnish students with an opportunity to review debates, investigate substantive issues and acquire problem-solving skills through project-based teamwork, as well as develop the analytical and social skills which are increasingly being sought in today's rapidly growing regeneration-related professions.

    Assessment:

    The modules are assessed through continuous assessment (a variety of seminars, essays, project work and practical exercises) and examinations.

    Special Features:

        * Addresses a state-of-the-art public policy agenda.
        * Certain modules have opportunities for one-day field visits. 
        * Recognised by the Royal Town Planning institute (TTPI) as a 'specialist' masters for those who have completed at least a three year RTPI recognised undergraduate degree in planning, allowing completion of the RTPI's educational requirements for membership.
        * Designed to be policy-relevant and practice-related, the MSc allows students to develop close links with a wide array of organisations involved in the regeneration of our cities and regions including regional development agencies, government Schools, community groups and third sector organisations.
