Regeneration and Sustainable Communities Master in Science
Academic titleRegeneration and Sustainable Communities Master in Science
Course descriptionTowns and cities have been subject to considerable change over the last century; first as a result of prolonged industrialisation in cities and more recently, the loss of that same industry through a process of deindustrialisation. Such structural changes in both developed and developing market economies are provoked at a global level by changes in political systems and economic forces, while at the local level, change can bring with it opportunities and challenges. In the UK context, the global changes of the last two or three decades have left a legacy of physical, social, and economic decline that have blighted many of our cities, while at the same time presenting new possibilities for competing globally. As a result, policy makers and practitioners are increasingly searching for ways to ameliorate the economic, physical and social effects of structural change, especially in cities while at the same time setting out the future role and aspirations of our cities. This course provides an introduction to the field of regeneration and sustainable communities, while offering students the possibility of developing in-depth skills in particular areas such as partnership working, strategy design and managing complex regeneration.
