    Cass Business School

    The course is highly regarded among property employers in London, across the UK and overseas. The finance and modern investment nature of the programme also enables graduates to move into commercial banks, corporate management and investment firms. The staff combines extensive teaching experience with many years of practice in the property industry and other investment markets. Expert practitioners also give lectures relating to their specific field of interest. Cass has a particular focus on international investment and finance, and maintains excellent links with the property industry and with universities and institutions abroad.

    Course content


    The course is designed to provide a sound basis in the many facets of the real estate market. It places property in a wider business context, and explores the relationship between property and economics, financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, investment and marketing.

    The first year covers fundamental disciplines needed for future studies, including economics for finance, financial and management accounting, quantitative methods and an introduction to financial markets and institutions. One elective may be chosen from Introduction to Law or French, German or Spanish for Business.

    Second-year subjects cover a wider area of expertise. Specialised compulsory subjects include real estate valuation and real estate planning and development. Other modules include investment markets, security analysis, principles of finance and business statistics. Electives offer you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of real estate finance. You may also continue your language studies.

    The final year focuses on specialised aspects of real estate finance and investment. Compulsory subjects include valuation and compensation, property appraisal, planning law, landlord and tenant law, and valuation and taxation. A wide choice of electives allows you to extend your knowledge in other areas of finance and investment. You also complete a 10,000-word dissertation related to your studies.

    Teaching and assessment


    Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and personal tutorials. You will also spend a significant amount of time in personal study. Assessment is by coursework and examinations, and in the final year you complete an individual project. The second and final years count towards the final degree classification in the ratio 35:65, and examinations comprise 70 per cent of the overall mark.
