    This programme is designed to prepare students for a research career, by providing an in-depth theoretical understanding, factual knowledge base, and practical experience of key research paradigms, research designs, and statistical techniques used in Psychology, and more broadly, in the Social Sciences.

    It is recognised by the ESRC as providing the one-year, master's-level postgraduate training which constitutes the first year of the ESRC 1+3 postgraduate studentships for full-time, part-time and CASE students. It will also be applicable to professionals in the social or health services, or in marketing and cognate disciplines, whose career development demands a research component.

    Additional course information
    The training received through attending seminars given by external speakers, and attending course modules will equip students with academic related skills. This training will also equip students with generic skills, such as oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and information management skills.

    Module details
    Full-time MRes students take eight course units and undertake a supervised, research-based dissertation (during the summer). Full-time diploma students do the same eight course units, but no dissertation. Part-time MRes students will complete the course over 24 months, with four course units completed in the first year, and four in the second year.

    -Structured Approaches to Qualitative Data
    -Using Advanced Statistics in Psychology
    -Philosophical and Conceptual Issues
