Printmaking Masterclass - Course

  • Course description Refine your skills and create your very own masterpieces using traditional printmaking methods and mediums.

You may already have completed the Creative Printmaking course and be ready to take your skills up to the next level of craftsmanship.

The new advanced printmaking course provides a comprehensive induction and training into the relief printing processes of linocut & wood engraving. The course aims to take your skills up to the next level of craftsmanship.

You will learn how to plan an image to print in relief, get to grips with the full range of relevant tools, and familiarise yourself with every stage involved in producing your own unique print designs.

You will explore the work and influence of key practitioners in the printmaking field. Online resources are provided and you will also have access to the excellent library facilities within the Arts University, enabling you to conduct research and source material for your prints.

It is advised that students have already completed the Creative Printmaking course or posses similar knowledge of printmaking techniques and processes. You will begin by learning the process of monochrome and reduction linocut, moving on to the more technical craft of wood engraving and learning every aspect that goes into making a fine print.

You will be working in our well-equipped print room using our Victorian Albion and Columbian printing presses.
    WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

Sketch books, pencils and permanent marker pens in various colours (Sharpie or equivalent). Initial wood and lino blocks and paper will be supplied to cover the first few weeks but then you would need to purchase additional wood blocks and paper (watercolour or cartridge 300gsm) depending on what you want to work on.
