  • Objectives * Develops practical knowledge and theoretical understanding to work with primary school children. * Trains to teach in two consecutive stages (Foundation and Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 1 and 2) with an understanding of the National Curriculum and learning needs of children from Foundation stage to Key Stage 3. * Developing professional values and practice needed to meet the broad demands teaching.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements A good degree (2.2 or above) from a UK university or equivalent; clear written and spoken English. Candidates attend an interview and must provide recent evidence of working with/observing children in a primary school classroom. Candidates must have grade C at GCSE or equivalent in English, Mathematics and Science

  • Course description This programme aims to train teachers who are confident in all settings, particularly urban and inner-city schools. Students train for two consecutive key stages, either 3-7 years or 5-11 years. Although students are expected to specialise in teaching either 3-7 years or 5-11, they will have an opportunity to observe and engage in structured experience across the full primary range.

    This programme is run in partnership with schools and students spend a minimum of 18 weeks in a primary school. The full-time programme requires students to be available for classes and school experience each weekday. The programme is also offered in a flexible mode, which offers an individual training plan building on student's existing skills, knowledge and experience, while seeking to accommodate their other commitments.

    This can take from one to two years and is intended for those with the potential to gain Qualified Teacher Status. A specialist route is offered for graduates wishing to teach French in primary schools.
