Postgraduate in Polymer Engineering and Science

  • Entry requirements BSc, BEng (lower second class honours or equivalent qualification). Graduates of physical and biological sciences and engineering subjects will be considered for admission. Mature students with industrial experience will be given careful consideration and admitted to postgraduate Certificate/Diploma with a view to progression to full Masters. Overseas applicants will also need to demonstrate English language ability (eg. IELTS 6.5, TOEFL score of 600 or equivalent).
  • Academic title MSc/PgDip/PgCert in Polymer Engineering and Science
  • Course description This modular course in Polymer Engineering and Science is designed to be a flexible means of education at postgraduate level. The course aims to address the teaching of the fundamental principles of polymer engineering and science to students with a wide range of first degrees in chemistry, engineering, materials science and biological sciences.

    Outline of programme

    The course is modular in structure.

    Core Modules

        * Elective Fabrication and Testing
        * Elective Biomaterials
        * Core Extended Project.

    Assessment

    Most taught modules are assessed on the basis of a combination of coursework, 20%, and examination, 80%. Some modules, including practical modules, are assessed as 100% coursework. The extended project is assessed by written project report, 25,000 words, and contributions from two Powerpoint presentations and one poster.

    Career opportunities

    Graduates find employment in the traditional plastics and rubber industries, including the surface coatings and adhesives industries. Increasingly employment opportunities are available in the electronics and healthcare industries.
