Postgraduate Diploma-MSc Industrial Practice

  • Objectives The aim of the course is to provide a framework within which the work-based learning of professionally employed graduates can be both facilitated and formally accredited at postgraduate level. By following this course, practicing professionals can be encouraged to develop an attitude of self-critical evaluation, continuous personal development and lifelong learning. The further aim of the MSc is to develop the skills of academic research and independent thought and analysis. This is achieved by providing them with an opportunity to apply their expertise to the solution of a significant industrial problem and to document the solution in the form of a project report. This course can be offered at all campuses and can accommodate a wide range of industry specialisms. The course is available to any professionally employed graduate, to KTP Associates and FUSION Graduates. With appropriate forward planning, students can meet the 'matching section' requirement of professional institutions, where this is necessary for full-chartered membership.
  • Entry requirements Entry Conditions You must normally have at least a second class honours degree from a recognised institution and have at least one year's appropriate work experience, or have a third class honours degree and at least two years appropriate professional experience, and be currently in employment with a reasonable prospect of two years continuous employment at an appropriate professional level. Mature candidates with a combination of experience and qualifications considered equivalent to those mentioned may be accepted to the Diploma Course with the prospect of transfer to the MSc course on satisfactory completion of all modules. A central feature of the course is a Learning Contract drawn up and agreed between you, the student, the University and the employing company. You may apply at any time, although formal enrolment dates are: 1 October, 1 February and 1 June. Applicants should make an initial application normally not less than two months before one of these dates.
  • Academic title Postgraduate Diploma/MSc Industrial Practice
  • Course description Duration and Mode of Attendance

PgDip - minimum one and a half calendar years (normally two years)

MSc - minimum of two calendar years (normally three years)

This course recognises the achievements of high calibre graduates in the work place and provides a structure within which such graduates can develop personally and professionally. Whilst the course will offer some taught modules, the bulk of the personal learning and development takes place in and through the work carried out in your own place of work.

If you wish to enrol on the course you will be required to prepare a document outlining how you propose to meet the course requirements. This document is the Learning Contract, and describes an integrated learning experience based on a course of work-based learning together with an appropriate selection of taught modules.
