  • Entry requirements If you are a teacher, or other educator, and you wish to build on the qualifications and experience you already have then this linked postgraduate course is for you. You will enter at the Postgraduate Diploma level and undertake modules worth 120 credits for your Postgraduate Diploma award and a further 60 credits for your MEd award. If, after completing 60 credits, you wish to exit the course, you can do so with a Postgraduate Certificate award.

    Applicants must normally:

    (a) have gained

    (i) an Honours or non-Honours degree from a University of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, from the Council for National Academic Awards, the National Council for Educational Awards, the Higher Education and Training Awards Council, or from an institution of another country which is recognised as being of an equivalent standard; or

    (ii) an equivalent standard (normally 50%) in a Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate, Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma or an approved alternative qualification, e.g. a professional qualification; and

    (b) provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English (GCSE grade C or equivalent); or for non-native speakers of English, meet the requirements in the table below:

    In exceptional circumstances, where an individual has substantial and significant experiential learning, a portfolio of written evidence demonstrating the meeting of graduate qualities (including subject specific outcomes as determined by the Course Committee) may be considered as an alternative entrance route. Evidence used to demonstrate graduate qualities may not be used for exemption against modules within the programme.
    Duration and Mode of Attendance

    The course is offered on a part-time basis, and is normally completed within three years with 60 credits being taken each year.
    Structure and Content

    We recognise that you probably have work and/or family commitments and this is why we have designed the course to be as flexible as possible. In terms of module delivery, we have face to face taught modules, online teaching, videoconferenced delivery and residential programmes.

    We offer modules in a range of named specialisms, or you can select modules across specialisms depending on your area of interest and availability. Modules will be offered subject to viable numbers. If you take two modules in a named specialism, your final award will include that named specialism eg MEd (ICT). For choices across specialisms, the award will include the term ‘Professional Practice’ eg MEd (Professional Practice).
