Postgraduate Diploma-MA Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
ObjectivesIt aims at excellence in practical teaching on the basis of a sound knowledge of methodology and English language; it is appropriate both for students in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and for those in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) who are involved in teacher education. The course has an excellent employment record, and graduates teach in countries all over the world.

Course descriptionEntry Conditions
You should normally hold an Honours degree or equivalent qualification. Subjects other than language-based disciplines are admissible; applications from native and non-native speakers of English are welcomed.

Structure and Content
The Postgraduate Diploma constitutes the taught part of the MA degree, and students who perform at the required level may then do a Masters dissertation on a subject of their choice. Core modules for ITE include EFL methodology, grammar, phonetics and pronunciation, language, society and the individual, teaching practice and research methods. CPD students do a special seminar on teacher education; they omit grammar and add a module drawn from a range of those offered in the School of Education. You will have the opportunity to deploy your skills during a six-week teaching practice in Hungary where you will work at either primary or secondary level in the state system. Prior to this, you will undergo a thorough course of supervised microteaching in which you will be recorded on closed-circuit television, and have the opportunity to analyse your performance with support from classmates and a tutor.
English Language Qualifications: Minimum IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550.
Scheduling of Lectures
Sessions will be held during the daytime; full-time and part-time students will be taught together.
