Course descriptionIntroduction
The course consists of practice based modules plus knowledge based modules covering all areas of psychiatric pharmacy. It is designed to engender a problem solving approach to the therapeutic dilemmas of the individual patient and to promote best pharmaceutical practice within the clinical team. It is suitable only for pharmacists.
Outline of programme
Practice based modules:
* The Multidisciplinary Forum and the Care Programme approach
* Clinical Interventions
* Formulary Development, Clinical Audit and Communication.
Compulsory knowledge based components:
* Psychological Therapies
* Substance Misuse
* Information Technology and Pharmacoeconomics.
Plus two further components from:
* Research Methods
* Learning Disabilities
* Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Epilepsy
Assessment
By tutor marked assignments submitted to the University, case presentations and a final synoptic, open book examination.
Career opportunities
Work submitted for the Diploma may be used in a portfolio application for membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacists (CMHP).
