Postgraduate Diploma for Overseas Pharmacists

  • Entry requirements Candidates must possess a pharmaceutical degree qualification that would enable them to register as a practising pharmaceutical chemist in the country of origin of the qualification. In addition candidates must have documented approval from the Adjudicating Committee of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain that they are suitable to apply for this course. This approval must be obtained before application.

    This course is accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain to upskill to the level of a recent graduate of a UK School of Pharmacy, those pharmacists who possess a recognised overseas pharmaceutical qualification. Successful completion of the course, including all elements of assessment, would enable the candidate to undertake a pre-registration placement in an approved pharmaceutical establishment with a view to entry to the UK Register of Pharmaceutical Chemists following successful completion of professional qualifying examinations. Aston University is not responsible for the provision of a pre-registration training place nor preparation for professional qualifying examinations.

    Outline of programme

    The full time course is structured as three consecutive 10 week terms delivered at Aston University.

    The course content is presented in nine modules, all of which are compulsory and include the following subjects: Professional Critical Skills, Applied Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Care, Evidence-Based Medicines Management, Pharmaceutics in Practice, Pharmaceutical Formulation, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacy Law and Ethics with Professional Practice.

    Assessment

    A wide range of assessment methods are used including:

        * Examination
        * Web based clinical assignments
        * Clinical case studies
        * Clinical case presentation
        * Portfolio development
        * Practical dispensing examination.
