Entry requirementsEntry requirements This is a two-year course, each year beginning with a three day residential. The course has been designed for a range of disciplines. Applicants will need to be eligible for chartered clinical psychology status within the BPS, or have a 2:1 in an applied social and health care discipline such as counselling or educational psychology, speech therapy, social work or psychiatry. They must also be currently active supervisors. However, candidates with a 2:2 who have additional vocational experience and qualifications will be considered.

This is a two year course designed for members of a range of disciplines who are currently active supervisors in an applied social and health care discipline.
Each year begins with a 3-day residential course in Sheffield. The course has been designed for members of a range of disciplines. It is normally the case that the applicants must have a first dergree (2i or first class) in an applied social and health care discipline such as clinical, counselling or educational psychology, speech therapy, social work, nursing or psychiatry. However, candidates with a 2ii who have additional vocational experience and qualifications will also be considered. They must also be currently active supervisors.
Teaching methods will include self-directed learning, based on activities outlined in the materials supplied to candidates, which will include specially written Units, audio and video material, and directed readings. This will be supported by online and telephone tutorials.
In order to register on the course, candidates will need to be currently active supervisors since the activities and coursework assignments will require them to apply their developing knowledge in practice.
The course will be run with the emphasis firmly on learning. How do people learn and how can we as supervisors develop our skills to facilitate this effectively? The aims are:
-To train and accredit health and social care professionals as clinical supervisors both for pre-qualification level trainees and for qualified practitioners.
-To offer a scheme of training which encompasses the use of psychological theories and methods to inform the task.
-To develop and enhance the knowledge base and skills of supervisors in the task of supervision.
-To promote exposure to and experience of a wide range of theoretical orientations, approaches and applications.
-To systematically evaluate, review and develop the course to meet the needs of supervisors within the NHS, Local Authority and other settings.
