Entry requirementsEntry Conditions All entrants are admitted initially to the Postgraduate Diploma. Students accepted on the course will normally possess a good second class Honours degree (preferably 2.1) in a relevant discipline (i.e. with exemptions from company law and Professional II examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland).
Course descriptionIt is an aim of the programme to develop the high level of skills, understanding and leadership capability necessary to enter a career in professional accountancy, and to obtain a deeper understanding of the contemporary problems and issues faced by accounting and business professionals. The Masters element will enable students to develop their studies further by requiring them to complete a research dissertation.
There are a number of core and optional modules, and students are expected to successfully complete eight for a Postgraduate Diploma and eight plus a dissertation for the MSc. Core subjects include: auditing and professional ethics; management accounting; business finance; financial accounting; taxation; and professional computer-based systems. There are four core modules in Semester I, and two core modules plus two optional modules in Semester II. Electives can be chosen from a number of relevant postgraduate modules already offered by the Faculty, e.g. research methods; corporate social responsibility; and sustainability in business. Successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma, including the research methods elective, is required before enrolling for the dissertation.
