Course descriptionIntroduction
The course covers the presentation and treatment of the major psychiatric disorders with particular emphasis on therapeutics. It is aimed at pharmacists but is also suitable for any healthcare professional with an interest in psychotropic medication especially those with a potential role as a nonmedical prescriber in mental health. The Certificate is a pre-requisite for the Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy.
Outline of programme
Six modules covering the major therapeutic areas of psychiatry together with the underlying principles of psychopharmacology, pharmacokinetics and the molecular basis for psychotropic drug action.
Assessment
By tutor marked assignments submitted to the University, case presentations and a final synoptic, open book examination
