Postgraduate Certificate in GIS by Distance Learning

  • Objectives The Postgraduate Certificate in GIS by distance learning provides flexible GIS training, in an independent learning environment. It is aimed at those wishing to pursue continuing professional development (CPD) or to gain some GIS expertise to apply in their work context. You will gain experience in the practical application of GIS, the development and execution of spatial data management strategies and in GIS-based analysis of spatial data. The Postgraduate Certificate in GIS can be used as a building block to a diploma in GIS and a Master of Science (MSc) as students who successfully complete the certificate cab apply to join our postgraduate diploma and move on to the MSc.

Assessment is through an on-line question and answer test and a GIS exercise.
-Applications of Spatial Data by Distance Learning (20 Credits), introduces the different ways that spatial data and GIS are applied to real world problems and applications. The background to different areas of GIS application and supporting exercises are provided by disciplinary experts from a range of GIS domains. This module applies some of the general GIS techniques to real-world analyses and application. Assessment is through on-line tests and a project assignment that demonstrates the use of GIS in tackling a specific application.
-Small Research Project by Distance Learning (20 credits) provides the opportunity for you to develop research on a subject of your choice, for instance in areas relevant to you and your professional context.
