Academic titlePostgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) - Primary Education
A range of teaching methods is used, including lectures, seminars, workshops and individual directed study, and students spend approximately 18 weeks in school-based placements (in a range of different schools). For most of the year Upper Primary and Lower Primary students are taught together, but with a separate strand of the course running for Lower Primary students to prepare them for teaching in the Foundation Stage. Students are required to opt for a specialist area of study (largely self-study) from a range of options presented early in the course. Students are assessed on all aspects of their work. There are two formally assessed written assignments, but the main form of assessment used is the TDA Standards for QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). Students are expected to take responsibility for the monitoring and recording of their own professional development (supported by a strong Personal Tutoring system)
