Post Qualifying Social Work (MSc)

  • Objectives This course is intended for social work professionals seeking advanced level study, and offers knowledge and expertise for a career and ongoing continual professional development in social work. Courses are approved as part of the Modular PQ Framework by the Care Council for Wales.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements

    A good first degree or a recognised equivalent qualification. Candidates are required to demonstrate, through a learning plan and support by an employer, that the course undertaken is relevant to their professional development.

    Furthermore, candidates have to be qualified social workers and on the Register of the Care Council of Wales, the General Social Care Council, the Scottish Social Services Council or the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (and then be required to remain on the Register in order to obtain an award).

    The course is designed to be flexible in order to meet continual professional development for social workers in their workplaces. A range of practice-focussed and specialist modules are offered. To progress to an MSc, all students follow the core module Principles and Practice of Research Design.

    After successful completion of the taught element, students undertake a 20,000-word dissertation.

    This degree offers an opportunity to progress to the MSc or exit with the following qualifications:

        * Postgraduate Certificate in Post Qualifying Social Work: Advanced Practice (Children or Adults)
        * Postgraduate Certificate in Post Qualifying Social Work: Management
        * Postgraduate Diploma in Post Qualifying Social Work
