Course description
Course description
The MSc in Photon Science is an unique course that has been launched in association with the University of Manchester's new research flagship, the Photon Science Institute. It has been designed to reflect the multidisciplinary nature of Photon Science and as such offers lecture courses and experimental projects not just from the School of Physics and Astronomy but also from the Schools of Chemistry, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, and from the Manchester Science and Enterprise Centre.
We also offer an MSc by Research and an MSc in Photon Science (Laser Photonics).
Module details
Students take four core modules in Laser Photonics, Laser Technology, Laser Laboratory and Spectroscopic Methods and Instruments, as well as four optional modules from the following: Laser Photomedicine; Laser, Electron and Photon Interactions with Atoms and Molecules; Nonlinear Optics; Soft Matter Physics; Holography and Imaging; Holography and Advanced Optics; Advanced Instrumental Techniques; Optoelectronic Devices and Photonics; Optical Instruments; Technology Enterprise with Tools and Techniques; Industrial Tomography Systems. Students will also carry out an extended experimental project in one of the participating Schools.
Career opportunities
