  • Entry requirements Entry A Masters degree or an upper second class honours degree plus work/research experience is normally required. Applicants have to submit a research proposal prior to application.

  • Course description The School of Theology and Religious Studies welcomes applications from well-qualified graduates who wish to engage in research for the degree of MPhil or PhD. The MPhil is awarded for a dissertation of not more than 60,000 words and the PhD for a dissertation of between 80,000 and 100,000 words.

    Research may be carried out in the areas of Old Testament, New Testament, History of Christianity, Practical Theology, Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies, and Study of Religions.

    Staff specialisms include biblical ethics, feminist and literary criticism, Gospel traditions, Pauline studies, Johannine studies, New Testament theology, Semitic background, the Reformation, the Evangelical Revival, the 19th and the 20th centuries, modern theology, theology and culture, rural ministry, church school studies, ministry studies, implicit religion, psychology of religion, philosophy of religion, Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies, Mission Studies, Study of Religions, Gender and Religions, Caribbean and Latin American religions.
