Objectives
The Postgraduate in Statistics offers a modern advanced curriculum in statistics which will enable you to broaden and deepen your understanding of the subject and its applications. The programme will provide you with specific techniques and skills suitable for a professional career in statistics or as a solid basis for research in statistics. Optional topics will include generalised linear models, Markov Chain Monte Carlo, the bootstrap, multivariate analysis, spatial statistics, time series and forecasting, multilevel models, stochastic finance, and shape and image analysis

Course Structure
-The Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics is offered on a full-time basis over 9 months.
-The course comprises 120 credits’ worth of taught modules.
Modules are mainly delivered through lectures and example and /or problem classes for smaller groups. You will typically be assessed by an examination or coursework at the end of the semester in which a given module is taught.
We also offer an MSc in Statistics, which mirrors the taught components of the Postgraduate Diploma course but also includes a 60-credit project / dissertation requirement

-This course is informed by the work being carried out in the Division of Statistics and the Centre for Mathematical Medicine.
-The School of Mathematical Sciences is one of the largest and strongest mathematics departments in the UK, with over 50 full-time academic staff.
-In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise, the School was awarded a grade of 5 for each of the areas of Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
-In the most recent Quality Assurance Agency Subject Review (2004/05), the School of Mathematical Sciences scored 23 out of 24 for the quality of its teaching.
