  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Designed for public service managers who already have a degree and / or professional qualifications at degree level or above. Ideally, the course is aimed at participants who are in their first managerial role or preparing for more senior roles; experienced managers who have no specific management qualifications; and practitioners who do have previous management training or management qualifications at degree level or lower, who wish to study core public service management topics in depth.

    -Module 2 - Managing People and Performance
    -Module 3 - Managing Performance and Quality of Public Service Delivery

    Applicants should meet the following criteria:

    Experience

    Applicants should be a practicing manager (new or more experienced).

    Educational qualifications
    Applicants should provide evidence of previous professional qualifications, at higher education level three and / or degree(s). Applicants with no previous professional qualifications or degree but with more than five years’ managerial experience will be interviewed and asked to provide examples of their written work from reports and other documents they produce in the workplace, so that the relevance of the course to their development may be judged effectively.

    Support from line manager
    Applicants should have the support of their line manager to ensure that the course meets their development needs, and that study leave required to meet the course commitments will be agreed.

    English language requirements
    Applicants whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of English language proficiency: for example, copies of IELTS or TOEFL certificates.

    About the course
    The Postgraduate Certificate in Public Services Management aims to develop essential management practice and knowledge required by managers in the public services. The course is designed for public service managers who already have a degree and / or other professional qualifications at degree level or above. This course emphasises and supports joint development opportunities to facilitate interagency working. It also provides an arena for networking with like-minded professionals in the public service field who can inform practice through shared experiences.

    Assessment
    Three assignments spaced throughout the year, plus an optional practice assignment.

    Course content
    The course content has been developed to provide an up-to-date and relevant insight into specific areas of public service management directly applicable to the work place.
