    • The Organisational Environment (15 credits)
    • Building a Future (15 credits)
    • Work-Based Learning (15 credits)

    Self Development and Interpersonal Skills
Having the skills to take control of your own development is becoming ever more important in the changing world of business. The ability to negotiate, present and take the lead in organisations is a skill that will be developed so that individuals are equipped with the tools needed to communicate coherently to a variety of stakeholders.

    The Organisational Environment
Bottom-line thinking, financial reporting, health and safety requirements, project planning and management accounts are all necessary elements of organisational structures that managers need to become accustomed to dealing with. Recognising how these organisational elements impact on each other is a skill that will be developed to enable the manager to approach them and operate with confidence.

    Building a Future
Organisations evolve, and successful organisations evolve to meet the changing needs of the market around them. They recognise the significance of meeting customer requirements and maintaining healthy customer relationships. An understanding of marketing and sales theory will develop your knowledge of the ‘marketplace’ and the role managers have to play. Change is inevitable in any organisation; this module will teach you to plan and manage the change process and how to achieve your business development objectives.

    Workplace Research Project
Critical application of the concepts and methodologies of business management to workplace situations are skills vital to the effectiveness of senior managers. Application in creative and constructive ways is the key objective of the research project. This module allows the student the opportunity to undertake a substantial research project based on the content of the three taught modules and based upon a situation in their own work place. Project scope and definition will be agreed with the supervisor early in the academic year in conjunction with the student’s work manager (if appropriate).

    Course Structure
The Postgraduate Certificate in Business Management is designed for part-time students, who undertake modules worth 60 credits over a period of 12 months. Three modules are class-based with the fourth module, Workplace Research Project, requiring students to undertake work-based learning. The Workplace Research Project gives students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills developed in the class-based modules to their current employment. Modules will be assessed by a mixture of written assignments, presentations, practice based assessment and portfolio.
