Teaching is an important and increasingly popular choice for a rewarding career. Being a teacher is about developing relationships with your pupils and inspiring them to learn. Primary teachers work with children between the ages of 3 and 11 and teach all of the subjects in the national curriculum. Teaching is a rewarding profession in more ways than one, offering fantastic career prospects and development opportunities.

his is an intensive 38-week course for graduates that aims to develop and foster the teaching and learning skills required of a primary school teacher. Students may specialise in early years education (3-7) or in the junior phase (7-11). Emphasis is placed on the National Curriculum and its implementation in the classroom. It is possible to follow the course through the medium of Welsh or English. The school-based component consists of eighteen weeks in partnership schools and the placements are designed to offer contrasting experiences. This is the core of the course and consists of regular contact with pupils. Lectures and seminars in college are closely linked to this teaching experience. Students are assessed in school by experienced mentors (teachers) as well as College of Education and Lifelong Learning link tutors.

Students should hold an initial degree that is relevant to the primary curriculum in addition to a grade B or higher in GCSE English and Mathematics, as well as a Grade C or higher in a GCSE Science on application.

Every PGCE Primary trainee has the right to receive a grant of £2,200. It will be paid monthly between October and June during the training year
