You can take a Generic route designed for a wide range of post-compulsory subjects, or an Integrated route, which offers a Level 4 qualification for aspiring teachers of Adult Basic Skills: ESOL, Numeracy and Literacy
You'll be placed in a local FE college for two days per week, and you'll also get to go on two block placements during the year - you are supported and supervised by college teacher mentors, as well as by a University Personal Tutor whom you meet on a weekly basis
Entry requirementsYou must be sure that you wish to embark on a career of teaching in Post-Compulsory Education before applying for this course
You should normally possess a 2:1 degree or equivalent qualification in the subject you wish to teach
For the Adult Basic Skills pathway, you should normally possess a Level 3 Literacy or Numeracy qualification, however we will examine qualifications on an individual basis
Vocational experience within the subject area is highly valued and taken into consideration during the selection process
We also expect you to research your subject area within the post-compulsory context, and to visit a further education establishment to make an informed decision about how your subject specialism fits into the national vocational framework
We also require GCSE Maths and English Grade C or equivalent - or you could take a computer-based Key Skills Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy equivalency test
