    Stage 1
    An academic, vocational or professional qualification at Higher Education (HE) Level 0/ National qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 4 equivalent or above
    A minimum of 20 hours teaching in a PCET teaching context on a regular and planned basis.

    Stage 2
    An academic, vocational or professional qualification at HE Level 0 equivalent or above
    A minimum of 60 hours teaching (these may include 20 hours from Stage 1) in a PCET teaching context on a regular and planned basis.

    Stage 3
    Completion of PG/CE PCET Stages 1 and 2
    City and Guilds 7407 Stages 1 and 2
    City and Guilds 7307/6 Stages 1 and 2 plus bridging module
    Other equivalent qualifications may be considered on application
    A minimum of 150 hours teaching in a PCET teaching context on a regular and planned basis.

    The programme expects students to be able to operate at a minimum of NVQ Level 4/HE Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy.

    Students who fall short of this requirement will be required to seek additional learning support to fulfill the qualification requirements of the programme.

    If you do not possess standard entry qualification, you may apply to be considered for exceptional entry, on the grounds of prior learning and experience.

  • Course description This programme leads to a Professional Certificate or Certificate in Post Compulsory Education and Training - the main recognised qualification for the post-14 sector in the UK. It can count towards Diploma, Degree and Masters programmes.

    The programme will develop your knowledge and practical skills in designing, delivering and assessing post-compulsory learning programmes. It is ideal for teachers, lecturers or trainers. This programme was one of the first in the UK to be endorsed by the Further Education National Training Organisation (FENTO). The programme is offered in association with the following colleges: Bishop Auckland, Darlington, Derwentside, Gateshead, East Durham and Houghall Community College, Hartlepool, New College Durham, Tynemetropolitan, Northumberland, South Tyneside, Stockton Riverside, City of Sunderland and Tameside.

        * Enhancing Learning through Innovation and Change
        * Practical Teaching and Professional Development 3

    Teaching and Assessment

    You will be taught by methods that encourage you to reflect on your professional development and in ways which will help you to engage with relevant educational research and policy developments. These consist of lectures, seminars, tutorials, directed learning, student centred learning, group work and independent research.

    Assessment is carried out through assignments, group work, reports, seminars, presentations and observed teaching practice.
