  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements: Academic requirements either: An honours degree at Grade 2:2 or above in a discipline relevant to Built Environment such as Architecture, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Project Management or Quantity Surveying or An honours degree at Grade 2:2 in a non-construction subject with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the construction environment or Relevant experience and an appropriate professional qualification such as RICS, RIBA, CIOB, MICE and MIStructE. Normally APEL will not be considered as part of the entry criteria and students will typically be expected to undertake all assessments on the award.

  • Course description This MSc is practice-based and research-focused. The practice base is grounded in a problem solving approach to complex and strategic issues encountered on construction projects. Students will be involved in case studies and field trips that may include one international field trip. Students are expected to make a financial contribution towards the cost of any international trip.

    This course is suited to candidates who are already engaged in the industry or who are seeking a career in construction project management. Graduates have a very strong record in gaining employment and/or promotion. This award has recently been accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

    The research focus is supplied via research-active staff directly involved in the development and delivery of the course and via contributions from visiting research fellows. The course offers three entry opportunities each year (ie. October, February and April).

    Brief Overview:

    The University of Glamorgan is an RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors ) Partnership Institution. This programme of study is designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to deal with planning, control and operation of construction projects at a senior level. It is accredited by RICS.

    Course Content

    You will study the following modules:

        * Asset and Facilities Management
        * Construction Laws and Practice
        * MSc Dissertation

    How To Study

    The course provides a combination of traditional lecture/tutorial formats and problem-based learning, organised through workshops and site visits. Delivery will be student-centred and learning-oriented – students will be encouraged to develop content in the light of their experience within the theoretical framework supplied and will be encouraged to document and evaluate their self-learning. The course uses a variety of assessment types. For the taught element, most modules are continuously assessed, though
    some modules are assessed through coursework and examination. The form of assessment varies and includes written reports and coursework,
    project work and presentations. Most submissions are individually assessed but some coursework may include teamwork assessment. The MSc element of the award requires a substantial dissertation based on an individual piece of research.

    Career prospects

    This course meets a specific need in the Welsh economy, as well as the ongoing requirement for construction project managers nationally and
    internationally. Previous graduates from predecessor courses found employment with development, construction and building companies, government organisations and agencies, plus commercial, management and consultancy firms.
