  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements The minimum required qualification for entry is at least a second class Honours degree in a cognate subject, such as an arts, social science or business-related discipline, from a UK University or equivalent from an EU or overseas university. Work experience is desirable, but not required. For students whose first language is not English, achievement of an IELTS score of 7.0 or a TOEFL score of 600/250 and TWE score of 4.5, is required. Prospective applicants must keep in mind that the above constitute minimum requirements and that meeting those requirements does not guarantee acceptance on the course.

  • Course description graduate Diploma stage (nine months) and transfer to the dissertation based MSc  stage (three months) on achieving a satisfactory performance. The programme is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and provides routes from student membership to graduate membership.

    Course Structure

    The Diploma stage of the course is taught within the framework of the University's two semester teaching year which runs from late September to the end of May. This involves a series of taught modules, seminars, speeches by distinguished HR professionals, and a professional skills development programme. All students undertake a curriculum based on the accumulation of no fewer than 120 credits to be derived from the following compulsory and optional taught modules to qualify for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (see below). Students who meet the eligibility requirements on the Postgraduate Diploma are allowed to proceed to the Masters stage.

    -Methods of Professional Enquiry

    Semester 2:
    -HRM Core B
    -Employee Reward

    One elective from the following:
    -Employment Issues & the Law
    -International HRM

    8 week work placement and Management Research Report.

    Professional Skills Development sessions takes place over both semesters

    Placement

    In the second semester, students attend a work based placement in an organisation. Important outputs of the placement experience include the Management Research Report, based on analysing a human resources issue in the organisation, and valuable experience of contemporary Human Resource Management practice in a real workplace.

    Masters
    Postgraduate Diploma/Masters Degree Option

    The Postgraduate Diploma begins in late September and is normally completed in the May diet of examinations.  Students who satisy the Board of Examiners may progress to the Masters Degree for which they must submit a 15,000 word dissertation on a human resource management issu, normally at the endd of August.  Students are eligible for Graduate Member of CIPD on successful compleetion of the Postgraduate Diploma

    Assessment

    The course modules are assessed by various methods which include essays, individual and group projects and final examinations. The examinations are generally held in January and April/May. Formal approval to proceed to the MSc stage is given by the end of June. The MSc stage requires the completion of the Dissertation.

    Continuous Professional Development Record (CPD)

    From the beginning of the course, students will keep a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Record that described all their important learning activities and experiences during the course. Submission of a satisfactory CPD Record is required for membership of the CIPD
