  • Course description The Coventry region has a strong tradition of fostering innovative new performing arts enterprises. This exciting new course will enable students to explore innovative practice within their performance discipline (dance, music or theatre), whilst working towards the development of their own company, enterprise initiative or independent performance project. Students will be be encouraged, supported and tutored in taking the next steps towards refining their business ideas, researching the potential market, and putting in place the skills, knowledge, and awareness of the arts business needed to survive and thrive in the next stages of their career.

    A distinctive feature of the course is its location within ICE, the University’s Innovation and Creative Enterprise Academy, a major new centre for creative practice in the region.     This course is aimed at students who wish to further explore innovative practice within dance, theatre or music towards the launching of a new creative enterprise.

    Course content

    The course will encourage students to research the market for their ideas, to understand the market position of their work, and to effectively manage the performance project process from inception to distribution. Contemporary theatre, dance and/or music practice will be studied in order to enable students to place their work against benchmark standards of creativity, innovation and originality. The work will focus on blending practice-based study and exploration with research and critical engagement. The Performing Arts Department has a strong tradition of building strategies for professional development through critical reflection, collaboration, creative innovation, and personal management of skill development.
