Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements for the Introduction to Investment qualification. Experience in the industry will help candidates relate what they are learning to the job they are doing but it is not a requirement of taking the qualification. Entry is subject to a formal interview.

Course description
General information
The Introduction to Investment Award has been specifically designed to meet the needs of new entrants to the investment industry irrespective of their level of experience or specialist profession, providing an overview of all areas of investment. The Award is regarded as a foundation qualification for a range of jobs in investment business within financial institutions authorised and regulated by the FSA. The Introduction to Investment Award contributes to the Securities & Investment Institute’s (SII’s) overall commitment to widening opportunities for people to enter the financial services sector and increase the general understanding of the role of financial services in the UK economy.
Course content
The course will cover:
* Risk Basics
* Credit Risk
* Market Risk
* The Nature of Operational Risk
* The Causes, Events and Impact of Operational Risk
* The Operational Risk Cycle
* The Support and Control Functions
* Integrated Risk Management (IRM)
* Achieving Common Standards and Protection
Teaching and assessment
Students sit the one hour exam via Computer based testing at the college.
Progression
This is the second of three modules making up the full Investment Award Qualification.
