Objectives
It focuses on contemporary philosophies of music education. In particular, you will consider critically music and arts as a development of the intelligence of feeling, current issues in music education, sociological factors that influence the curriculum, and the provision and methodologies of educational investigation.

If you are a musician involved in music education and would like to read, evaluate and discuss music education in the broad sense as well as the specific, this course is ideal.

Course description
What will you study?
You will explore major contemporary writings on music education by considering critically the texts of key music educators. You will also discuss currently debated issues in music education and develop your own perspectives.
In addition you will develop a broad range of music education research skills – historical/life histories, surveys and questionnaires – through the appraisal and analysis of published research findings. Option modules allow you to widen your knowledge into other areas that may interest you, such as composition, popular music and music performance.
