* be able to analyse and critically think about sound and its role in a wider creative arts environment;
* develop understanding of the scope and limitations of computer applications in sound design;
* engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration in the context of audiovisual practice;
* discover new creative uses of advanced technologies;
* foster the ability to work cooperatively in groups in the context of design;
* develop an understanding of the potential for new technologies.
How You Will Be Taught
Students will attend a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical sessions supported with occasional input from external professionals in the field of sound design and related areas.

Summer
-Final Project
-Collaboration or individual research into a sound design topic of your choice
-Successful completion of the taught component of the programme qualifies candidates to receive the Postgraduate Diploma. Those who attain an overall minimum of 50% in their assessed work may proceed to an MSc, undertaking a final sound design project over the summer. This will account for one third of the degree.
The course is a one-year full-time programme that gains its impetus from a series of structured design-oriented projects. So the course is highly practical but with a strongly reflective and theoretical component that draws on contemporary philosophical and cultural themes. This makes both the MSc in Sound Design unique. Students will be expected to spend at least 10 hours per week on project work outside of formal study time. The Courses “Media and Culture” and “Digital Media Studio Project” are shared with the MSc in Design and Digital Media, MSc Digital Composition and Performance and MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology.
