MSc-Postgraduate Diploma-Postgraduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health

  • Objectives To equip students with a sound knowledge and understanding of a range of topics in child and adolescent health; to use this to underpin students’ existing practical experience with evidence-based expertise and develop an appreciation of the strengths and limitations of research evidence and, at Masters stage, its application; to enable students to enhance their careers in the field of child and adolescent mental health.
  • Entry requirements The course is aimed at professionals working with children. The prerequisites to entry for the Certificate are a second class honours degree or equivalent professional qualification from any discipline, which involves the care of or working with children and adolescents (including teachers, nurses, primary mental health workers, social workers, therapists, youth workers and other voluntary sector staff).

    Teaching and assessment methods
    Teaching is by a combination of taught element, private study and a practical element. The course is assessed by student presentations and a written assessment at the end of each module.

    Duration and mode of study

    The Certificate comprises two modules, each requiring six teaching days, plus practice-based learning and private study. On average, there will be two taught days each month. Students may be offered the opportunity to
    continue on to the Postgraduate Diploma and MSc. A similar format will be followed for the Diploma. The MSc will involve a supervised research project and research tutorials.
