MSc-PGDip-PGCert Micro Electronics and Nano Technologies International

  • Objectives The aim of this programme is to impart knowledge in the emerging area of micro electronics and nano technologies and to enhance student employability by emphasising on active learning, employing innovative assessment methods and incorporating problem based learning into the teaching strategies. Teaching will be a mixture of formal lectures, tutorials, experiments and workshops. Assessment methods adopted (unseen examinations, coursework, reports, MSc thesis, viva voce and oral presentations) involve an element of reflection and critical appraisal.
  • Entry requirements Students with a minimum of a second class honours (or equivalent) undergraduate degree, typically in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Physics or Chemistry. Applicants (mature engineers, physicists and chemists) without academic qualifications will be considered via non-standard entry formalism
  • Academic title MSc/PGDip/PGCert Micro Electronics and Nano Technologies
  • Course description Students will undertake a course on micro-electronics and nanotechnology, which will strengthen their basics and introduce them to cutting edge research problems in electronics industry. The student will learn such skills during her/his stay in EMTERC that will be directly applicable in an industrial environment. Hence , students graduated through this programme will be able to develop careers in microelectronics and nanotechnologies.

    Programme

The course will consist of four core modules and four specialised modules. The core modules will help students strengthen their understanding of the physics of semiconductor materials and devices, measurements and characterisation of materials. Subsequently, they will be introduced to the four specialised compulsory modules in the areas of micro and nanotechnologies. Leading specialists will be invited to deliver lectures in the emerging field of microelectronics and nanotechnologies. EMTERC has well established links with major industries world-wide; this will be exploited to involve industry, as deemed necessary, given that the projects will be of industrial relevance.
