Entry requirementsEntry requirements This course is open to health professionals using ultrasound in diagnosis. It is an in-service course and as such applicants must be employed in a clinical setting or have written agreement for appropriately supervised clinical placement. The University is not responsible for finding clinical placements for students. Normal entry requirements are one of the following • a pass degree in radiography or equivalent professional qualification • Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent professional qualification and proven ability to cope with the academic demands of postgraduate study International students will require one of the following English qualifications • TOEFL score of 550/213 or above • IELTS score of 6.0 or above • GCSE or GCE O level – grade B or above • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at grade C or above Students qualifying in medical ultrasound outside the UK must apply to the Health Professions Council to establish that they are eligible for state registration, before being considered for the course. The address for the Council is Park House, 184 Kennington Park Road, London, SE11 4BU Also, students must be working clinically for part of the time whilst studying, in order to apply learning to the clinical situation. It is the responsibility of the student to find relevant clinical work.

Course descriptionThese courses are for a range of professionals with relevant academic and clinical expertise wanting to gain an ultrasound qualification. State registration is desirable but not essential.
Attendance varies according to module but is generally based on day release (normally a Tuesday).
You must be working clinically with access to supervised scanning in your chosen area of practice to apply learning to the clinical setting. It is your responsibility to find relevant clinical work.

Each of the named awards has a number of core modules which all students must take. These are followed by clinical optional modules.

Students who successfully complete a postgraduate certificate may go on to take the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound.
PgDip core modules
Students choose from the Pg Certificate modules but they must be in a different clinical area to the modules studied in the 1st year.
