Academic titleMSc/PgDip/PgCert International and Travel Health
Course descriptionThis course is for all health and social care practitioners involved in promoting health and treatments associated with internationaltravel. It is by distance/assisted learning.
You must attend the University for a two and a half day induction and then two assessment weekends each semester. You normally attend the two day induction course plus one Saturday at the end of each semester for assessments.
The increase in internationaltravel creates a global public health problem. Infectious diseases account for half the deaths in tropical areas, where antimicrobial resistance is an increasing problem.
The ability to move rapidly from one country to another for work or social reasons means the spread of such diseases has never been easier. The potential of bioterrorism spreading infection has become an obvious threat in recent years.
Healthcare practitioners need to be aware of, and able to respond to, the major health problems that have so many far reaching social and economic implications.
This course looks at internationaltravel and addresses its social and health-related impact. It examines the necessary responses and increased risks associated with internationaltravel.
You take four 15 credit modules to gain the postgraduate certificate. This gives you a foundation in the significance of risk factors concerning infection, particularly those associated with travel, epidemiological and public health issues. You can then progress to a more specialised postgraduate diploma and on completion of a dissertation, to a masters award.
