Course descriptionThe Master of Information Management (IM) is designed to create versatile managers who can operate at the interface between business and information and communication technology (ICT). The course provides participants with core business, management and technology skills, with a particular focus on business information systems.
The course assumes no prior knowledge or experience of information systems and is designed to allow students to apply existing skills and knowledge regardless of background. However, the course is also relevant to students with a computing or technology focused first degree that desire complementary business and management skills.
As an information manager their responsibilities are likely to include:
* corporate information strategy and policy formulation
* design, evaluation and integration of effective business information systems and services
* the exploitation of IT for competitive advantage
* integration of internal and external information and data
Diploma and MSc students follow the same instructional course for the first two semesters; thereafter, MSc students prepare a dissertation of up to 20,000 words on an approved topic. Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratories. Dissertation is by supervision.

Dissertation
An individual research project on an approved topic, which allows students to pursue an area of specific interest, providing scope for original thought, research and presentation.
Funding
This course is supported by the Students Awards Agency for Scotland, which provides funds to Scottish and non-UK EU citizens. Students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland may also be eligible for a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Others may be eligible for a Career Development Loan.

Graduates are employed in both the private and public sector, and in both management and consultancy roles. Several have risen to senior executive positions in global organisations.
