  • Entry requirements This MSc Sports Psychology is designed for students wishing to specialise within the discipline of sports psychology, train for sports psychology support work with athletes, acquire vocationally related psychological skills, develop academic understanding in the subject area, and gain intellectual and research skills within a specialist field. Opportunities are available for applied placement under the supervision of accredited sports psychologists. Students may utilize this experience as part of their professional accreditation.

    A module is a self-contained unit of work that contributes to a programme of study. Each module is worth a set number of credits that is generally 20M credits for each postgraduate programme. The research product (in the form of an academic research journal paper) carries a triple weight of 60M credits.  Credits can be accumulated to lead to the stage awards (Postgraduate Certificate - 60M credits, and Postgraduate Diploma - 120M credits). Students must accumulate 180M credits for a MSc. award.

    Careers

    A wide variety of careers is available to students who hold a MSc award. Many students choose to continue in education, research or applied sports psychology.  Several students have gone into teaching and lecturing in schools, colleges and universities.  Some have continued their studies with a Doctoral research programme. Students may consider taking up opportunities to become accredited sports psychologists or professional counselors.   Others have engaged in sports science support and/or athlete support programmes with National Governing Bodies and professional sports clubs or acted as consultants in professional sport settings.

    Students obtaining a MSc award may follow a wide variety of career paths including teaching, management and business. Possession of a Master’s qualification should enhance career prospects in these spheres of employment.

    Entry requirements

    Candidates will be required to have academic qualifications commensurate with entry to postgraduate study, and be able to demonstrate an aptitude for scientific study. Candidates would be expected to have a good honours degree (i.e., upper second or first) in sport science, science or a related discipline
